Bristol Waste raises £41,000 for St Peter’s Hospice

Profits from Reuse Shops go to important local charity

Thanks to Bristol residents’ commitment to reuse and shopping second-hand, we have been able to donate £16,139 to St Peter’s Hospice. This brings our total donations to £41,267 since 2018!

Our hardworking Reuse Shop teams and the household reuse and recycling centre colleagues who support them made this donation possible. Everyone who has shopped at or donated to Bristol’s three Reuse Shops has also contributed to this success!

The power of reuse

Bristol Waste’s reuse work has gone from strength to strength. Starting with a single pop-up event, you can now find dedicated reuse shops each of Bristol’s three household reuse and recycling centres across the city.

Since the start of our reuse programmes, we’ve committed a significant percentage of the income generated to charity. The rest of the profits are invested back into Bristol and its services. In 2022, a staff vote selected St Peter’s Hospice as our chosen charity partner.

Staff and volunteers help save unwanted items from going to waste, residents can buy affordable goods, and the money raised goes to support a charity providing care to patients and their families.

Supporting an essential charity

For just about everyone in Bristol, St Peter’s Hospice means something significant. In May,  St Peter’s Hospice CEO Susan Hamilton and members of her team visited our Hartcliffe Way Household Reuse and Recycling Centre. There were lots of stories about the support our staff have received from the charity. In turn, St Peter’s Hospice talked about the crucial work the charity does, from the 15 beds at their Inpatient Unit and hospice in Brentry, to the care their Community Nurse Specialists provide in people’s homes, as well as the ongoing bereavement support for families and local communities.

If you’d like to grab a second-hand bargain and contribute to a fantastic local charity, plan your visit to one of our Reuse Shops today! From sofas and tables to curtains and light fittings, every shop has treasures to be discovered. Book your visit below.
