Service Changes
Latest updates and changes to waste and recycling services in Bristol.
Hot weather update: red weather warning 24 and 25 June 2026
Our absolute priority is keeping our teams safe from dangerously hot working conditions.
To help keep colleagues safe we are adapting working hours across the business to keep people out of the worst of the heat. This includes our street cleansers, our material processing teams, our security colleagues and more.
Waste and recycling collections
Due to the red weather warning for extreme heat in the region (danger to life), our collections service will be starting from 4am on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June 2026 and stopping when it is no longer safe to work. Our recycling crews will be prioritising critical collections, such as food waste recycling and clinical waste.
For those with Wednesday, Thursday or Friday collections:
- Please put your containers out the night before to ensure they can be collected from 4am.
- We’re prioritising food waste and clinical recycling. If your dry recycling (plastic, metal, card, paper and glass) has not been collected by 5pm on Friday 26 June, please bring your containers back in and put them back out on your next bin day.
- Our crews will be collecting double volumes on your next collection day for those impacted
- If your refuse (general waste) collection was missed, please leave your bins out, our crews will be returning for your collection as soon as we can
We appreciate your understanding as we adapt services to keep our hard-working teams safe.
Thank you also for all the messages of support and the kind offers of cold drinks for the crews.
Service will resume on Friday 26 June from 5am (one hour earlier than the standard start time as temperatures are expected to be 25 degrees or higher).
Household Reuse and Recycling Centres
Our St Philips and Hartcliffe Way Household Reuse and Recycling Centres (including the Reuse Shops) will be closed on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June.
Thank you
Thank you for your patience, and we appreciate your support in keeping our crews, you and your neighbourhoods safe.
