Another £10,000 raised for St Peter's Hospice!

Bristol Waste’s ongoing commitment to diverting items from waste for reuse has helped raise a total of more than £50,000 for St Peter’s Hospice.

This is thanks to Bristol residents and the dedication of the company’s Reuse Shop teams, based at Household Reuse and Recycling Centres.

The latest contribution, a £10,000 donation, was made possible by everyone who has donated items or shopped at the three Reuse Shops.

Recently, staff and volunteers celebrated the 400,000th item sold or donated, with money raised going to reuse and to support charitable work, including local hospice care.

Bristol Waste’s Reuse Growth Manager, Jak Boydon, said:

“Reaching over £50,000 in support for St Peter’s Hospice is something we’re incredibly proud of.

It shows what’s possible when residents, staff and volunteers come together to give unwanted items a second life.

Through reuse, we’re reducing waste, making affordable goods available locally, and turning donated items into vital funding that supports hospice care for people across Bristol.”

A portion of the income generated through Bristol Waste’s award‑winning reuse programmes is donated to charities. In 2022, employees selected St Peter’s Hospice as a charity partner, strengthening a relationship that began with the first donation in 2018. Since then, Bristol Waste has donated a total of £51,267.

Bristol Waste’s reuse initiatives have expanded significantly in recent years. What began as a single pop‑up event in 2020 has grown into three dedicated Reuse Shops located at the Avonmouth, Hartcliffe Way, and St Philip’s Household Reuse and Recycling Centres.

These shops have become community success stories, preventing usable items from going to waste, offering affordable goods to residents, and generating funds for a charity that provides essential care to patients and support for their families.

St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s only adult Hospice caring for people with life-limiting illnesses in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. The care provided includes physical, emotional, spiritual and social support and happens within the home or at the Hospice in Brentry, Bristol.

Tracy Burns, Partnerships Manager at St Peter’s Hospice, said: “Thank you so much to Bristol Waste for the ongoing support they give to our organisation. The latest £10,000 donation is hugely appreciated and to hear that over £50,000 has been raised for us in total is incredible.

All care at St Peter’s Hospice is provided free of charge to our patients when they need it the most, but we rely on gifts in wills, funds from our retail shops, fundraising and donations like this to be able to continue delivering our services.”
