Bristol businesses collect 336 bags of litter
Local businesses make a difference to Bristol's communities
The Big Tidy recently joined forces with Bristol Animal Rescue Centre to get locally based businesses involved in cleaning up their neighbourhoods. With 35 employees from Imperial Brands and 46 employees from Gardiner & Theobald, an 80 strong group descended on Redcliffe and Bedminster for two marathon litter picks in June.
Protecting Bristol’s wildlife
Bristol boasts many beautiful green spaces, so it’s important that they’re kept safe for wildlife. Luke from the Bristol Animal Rescue Centre gave talks to each group on how litter harms hedgehogs, birds and insects. He also spoke about the heart-breaking impact they see on injured animals brought into their veterinary clinic.
The employees then set off around Gore’s Marsh Park in Bedminster and Somerset Square in Redcliffe, before spreading out to surrounding roads. After a combined 8 hours of litter picking, they collected a whopping 101 bags of litter. This haul brought the total of bags collected by Big Tidy businesses over the past 12 months to 336 bags. That’s an incredible result for Bristol’s communities and wildlife!
Businesses great and small
Other large companies who have dedicated their time to helping the Big Tidy keep Bristol clean are Lloyds Banking Group, Hargreaves Lansdown and BT Group. Smaller local businesses such as Jeff Way Electrical and Carbometrics have also gotten involved.
Their work makes a real difference to each area, but a cleaner city isn’t the only benefit. A litter picking kit is a great way to improve your business’s green credentials, get the team out in the fresh air, and build a strong relationship with local communities. We also encourage Big Tidy businesses to organise their own team litter picks, clean up local streets, or just ask other businesses to bring their bins in.
