Waste and recycling advice for Bristol students

Taking charge of your waste and recycling is an immediate way to have a positive impact in your house, your community and the environment.

While you’re studying in Bristol, you are a citizen of the city. Whether you’re here for a year, several years or planning to stay for good, you can help make Bristol an even greener and cleaner city through your actions. Recycling and proper waste management also shows respect for your housemates, your neighbours and your new home town.

It’s much easier to make a plan for waste and recycling as soon as you move in, rather than waiting until you have a piles of card, glass, cans and plastic to deal with. Making sure you have all the bins you need, labelling them and making a rota for taking them out are all simple steps you can take to make recycling easy.

Former Bristol student Marco said:

“We bought different coloured bins for our kitchen, making it super easy to chuck things into the right bin without having to sort it all out later.

We also have a poster of what goes in each bin above, meaning no one has an excuse to recycle badly! Working together as a flat to do something positive has been great- would definitely recommend!”
