Hired vehicles at the reuse and recycling centres

This page contains important information for anyone planning to hire a vehicle to transport items to a reuse and recycling centre.

In line with the new recycling centre guidelines that have been brought in to aid social distancing and reduce queues, only small vans are allowed on site. Read the full guidelines for more information.

Permits and access times

  • You don’t need a permit for a hired van if the hire agreement is for three days or less.
  • If the hire is longer than three days you can’t use it for visiting the Reuse and Recycling Centre.
  • Access for hire vans and trailers operates over a shorter week: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday only. Opening hours remain the same.
  • The odd/even number plate system applies to hired vehicles in addition to the shorter week.
  • There is currently no access to the recycling centres for trailers.

Please note that these rules are subject to frequent reviews so it’s a good idea to check the website for the latest information before visiting one of our sites.

To use the recycling centre with a hired van you’ll need to bring:

  • Your vehicle hire agreement
  • A council tax or utility bill from the last three months
  • Your photocard driving licence

If you arrive in a Car Club or Zipvan vehicle you will only be asked for proof of address (preferably council tax bill or driving licence) to be able to use the site. Small hire vans are allowed on site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday (the exact day will depend on your registration plate).

You can check the queues at the recycling centres using our live queue cameras.

Updated rules for recycling centres

Please make sure you have read the latest rules and guidance before visiting either of our reuse and recycling centres. The odd/even number plate system and the limit on vehicle size apply to hired vehicles in addition to the instructions below.
